Monopoly For Mac
Monopoly is a world-famous board game which was published by a subsidiary of Hasbro, Parker Brothers. The concept of the game is influenced by the economic concept of monopoly: a single entity dominates a market. The game was influenced by a 1904 game, The Landlord’s Game, designed by Elizabeth J. Magie Phillips which was used to explain Henry George’s tax theory. In 1934, Charles Darrow made his own version of the game and called it Monopoly. It was
presented to Parker Brothers and Milton Bradley but it was rejected. Charles Darrow attempted to produce the game and sold 5,000 sets to Wanamakers Department Store in Philadelphia. Parker Brothers approached Charles Darrow and the game was sold under the Parker Brothers label in 1935.
The US Edition of Monopoly Here and Now was release in September 2006, with changes in landmarks used. California, Texas, and Florida were now represented with two cities each. San Francisco and Los Angeles were included to represent California. Houston and Dallas represent Texas, and Orlando and Miami represent Florida. Community Chest and Chance were updated. Hotels and houses were in silver and blue. Monetary values were increased in multiples by 10,000 such that passing Go allowed for collection of $2,000,000 compared to $200 in previous versions.
The Orange property group is the most profitable property group to own due to the increased probability of players landing on the property group often, primariliy because of Chance cards like “Go Back Three Spaces”, “Advance to King’s Cross Station (Reading Railroad)”, “Advance to Pall Mall (St. Charles Place)”, and “Go To Jail”. Players often land on properties like King’s Cross Station (Reading Railroad), Fenchurch Street Station (B&O Railroad), Vine Street (New York Avenue), and Trafalgar Square (Illinois Avenue). Players land least on properties like Whitechapel Road (Baltic Avenue) and Old Kent Road (Mediterranean Avenue).
Monopoly is mostly criticized for its length of play because it can go for hours. This problem, however, can be easily resolved by agreeing to a time limit. After the time is up, the player with the most net worth wins. Some tournaments set a time limit of 90 minutes while international tournaments set the time at two hours. According to Hasbro, the longest Monopoly game ever played lasted for 70 days, or 1,680 hours, or 2 1/3 months, or 10 weeks.
